2 Killed In Car Accident In Pasco County

CarAcc17

Drivers are told not to speed and to watch where they are turning. However, drivers get distracted or they drive recklessly for some reason or another. These actions can lead to deadly accidents.

Two men were recently killed in a crash in Pasco County. The fatal accident occurred on the afternoon of March 23 in Elfers.

The accident occurred when a Kia Sorento, driven by a 27-year-old man from Holiday, was speeding while headed west on SR-54. At the same time, a Lexus RX, driven by a 66-year-old man, was headed south on Virginia City Drive. That was when the Lexus turned left into the path of the Kia at the intersection of SR-54 and Virginia City Drive.

The two vehicles collided. The driver of the Kia suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Lexus and his passenger, a 68-year-old man, died at the accident scene. Both were from New Port Richey.

Careless Driving

Driving requires a lot of alertness and effort, but many motorists drive carelessly. Careless driving falls below the minimum standard expected of a driver. It includes driving without reasonable consideration for others on the road.

Careless driving is illegal. Examples of behaviors linked to careless driving include:

  • Tailgating
  • Sudden braking
  • Failing to look properly
  • Overtaking other vehicles
  • Turning into the path of another driver
  • Distracted driving, whether it be from something inside or outside the vehicle

Turning into the path of another driver, like what happened in this case, can be very dangerous. It can lead to head-on accidents, which can cause serious injuries or even death for those involved.

The behaviors listed above can be especially dangerous when speed is involved. Going too fast for conditions can make it harder to control your vehicle. A driver can easily lose control. Plus, the impact from a crash at high speeds can be more severe, causing catastrophic injuries.

Distractions can also cause carelessness while driving. People need to be alert while driving, but not all are focused on the road. They may be focused on pets and passengers. They may be changing the radio station, eating, applying makeup, reading, or engaging in other tasks that take their focus off of driving. This lack of focus can lead to serious crashes.
