6 Injured in 9-Vehicle Crash in Opa-Locka

Car crashes often involve one or two vehicles. The more vehicles involved, the more serious the injuries—for the most part. There are some exceptions. A recent car accident in Florida involved nine vehicles. Six people were injured, but the good news is that there were no fatalities.

A Miami-Dade fire truck was involved in the crash, which happened in Opa-Locka on the evening of March 26. The fire truck collided with a car at Northwest 27th Boulevard and Northwest 135th Street. It caused a chain-reaction accident and seven other vehicles then crashed.

Two people were trapped inside one car and had to be rescued by emergency crews. In total, six people were taken to local hospitals.

What is a Multi-Vehicle Crash?

A multi-vehicle crash occurs when three or more vehicles collide. These are typically rear-end crashes caused by a chain reaction. For example, one vehicle rear-ends the vehicle in front, and then that vehicle gets rear-ended.

Vehicles may get too close to each other, and if one slows down, the vehicle behind it may not slow down in time, causing an accident.

When multiple vehicles are involved in a crash, it makes it difficult for the occupants of the vehicles to escape. When many escape, they get hit by cars and trucks passing by. The impact can also cause fires, and when this happens, time is of the essence. A person who does not exit their vehicle in time can burn to death. In 2002, California saw another serious crash, when dense fog caused 216 vehicles to collide. Fortunately, there were no deaths, but 41 people were injured.

Determining liability in these crashes can be complicated. It is hard to tell who initially caused the crash. However, investigators will use many tactics, such as accident reconstructions, to help resolve this issue.
