1 Killed In Lehigh Acres Crash
A combination of factors on the roadways can lead to deadly conditions. This was recently the case in Florida, when a man was killed and several others were injured in a two-vehicle crash.
The fatal accident occurred on the morning of October 14 in Lehigh Acres at Williams Avenue and West 9th Street. A Ford F-150 pickup truck and a Toyota sedan collided at the intersection after the Toyota failed to stop at the stop sign. The car collided with the left side of the pickup, causing the car to go off the road and hit a tree and stop sign. The truck, which was hauling a trailer, overturned on the shoulder.
The driver of the truck, a 63-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Lehigh Regional Medical Center, where he later died. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Toyota, a 30-year-old woman, was driving with an infant in the car. Both were hospitalized with serious injuries. A passenger in the truck, a 23-year-old man, was also seriously injured. The roads were closed for several hours as police investigated.
Running Stop Signs
At a stop sign, you would expect that a driver would stop, but that is not always the case. Even though drivers have to legally follow these signs, not all do for some reason or another.
The main reason for doing so is that the drivers aren’t paying attention. It’s easy for them to run a stop sign if they don’t see it because they are distracted by something else.
Impatience is another issue. Drivers are often running late and in a hurry. Having to stop at a stop sign allows them down even more, so many motorists just run them.
Lack of familiarity with the roads is another issue. A person who is new to the area or taking a different route may not be aware of stop signs. In some cases, it is easy to run right by them, especially in rural and less-populated areas.
Intoxication is another issue. When a person is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they don’t make good decisions. They lack good judgment and their reaction times slow down. These two factors can make it easy to run a stop sign.
