Woman Left Nearly Blind After Facelift

InjuryEye2

Medical procedures can be tricky. We expect that our doctor will perform the surgery to the best of their ability, but this is not always the case. Sometimes serious injuries or conditions occur, making a patient in worse shape than before.

Unfortunately, this happened to a South Florida woman. Her facelift was supposed to make her feel better about herself. Instead, she has been scarred physically and emotionally due to the unexpected outcome.

The woman was allegedly left disfigured and nearly blind by her surgeon after a routine facelift. She has since learned that the doctor doesn’t have insurance, so she will have to go to great lengths to receive any compensation.

The 70-year-old woman is embarrassed by the big patch over her right eye. She doesn’t want to be seen in public, so instead of doing the things she enjoys, such as dancing and going to the gym, she now spends a lot of time at home watching TV.

Her eye was damaged during the plastic surgery. She is now in constant pain and has to wear the patch, as everything bothers her. She can no longer tolerate things such as air conditioning, fans, and cooking.

She has been dealing with the pain since February, when she had a partial face-lift. She knew something was very wrong as soon as she woke up from surgery. it was total blackness. She was scared, as she couldn’t see anything.

The surgery left her unable to fully close her eyes. She still has not fully regained her vision, especially in her right eye. Her eyes are asymmetrical now.

She immediately called her surgeon and went to see him at his clinic in Davie. However, the surgeon left her waiting for several hours in the waiting room. She was given a bottle of saline and some gauze sponges.

She then saw an eye specialist, who gave her bad news. Because her eye isn’t closing, the cornea is drying out. The cornea has become ulcerated, which is why the woman can’t see. She fears she may need to have her eye sewn shut.

The surgeon stated that he did not operate on her eyelids. He asked the woman to come back for follow ups.

The woman wanted to file a lawsuit but discovered the surgeon doesn’t have medical malpractice insurance. Doctors who don’t practice in hospitals are not required to carry malpractice insurance.

The woman could sue her surgeon personally, but right now she is concentrating on her health.

If she needs to go to an ocular plastic surgeon, that can cost more than $30,000.
